At most Mariners home matches, I am on the western side grassed area kicking around with any kid that turns up to play inside the Newcastle Permanent inflatable pitch. But back in March there were other festivities to attend to, so I got to watch most of the Mariners v Wanderers match with my family. It was first v second and whoever won was almost certain to be first past the post.
Those of us in the stadium could hear the RBB (Wanderers supporters) starting their songs from Gosford Railway Station and getting louder and louder as they entered the arena. There were approximately 8,000 travelling Wanderers fans that day, and over 10,000 of our own faithful. The atmosphere was electric and the RBB attempted to make it is as intimidating for our boys as possible.
Our first round blockbuster may seem a long way away at the moment, especially with the NRL and AFL finals just getting underway, but on Friday pre-sale tickets to our 4000 Mariners members went on sale, offering the opportunity to buy up to four extra tickets. This still may not mean much, but in four weeks time these will be the hottest tickets in town. I can assure you the Wanderers and their 15,000 members are hoping that us Coasties let this window of opportunity slip through our fingers.
Don’t let it – spread the word!
Warning! This very amateur video will make you feel a bit dizzy but it was taken 10 minutes before kick-off last time the two teams met at Bluetongue. Hopefully it will give you some idea of what will be happening in Gosford on Saturday 12 October.
