At IFS, we aim to give players the opportunity to be in an environment where they are challenged to improve the intensity and speed of their play under pressure, yet also have a place to strive to dominate, be creative and build confidence.
To have this opportunity in one environment would be ideal, but if there is access for a player to experience both skill sets in different ways, the learning can be equally, if not even more powerful.
I call it the ‘Push Me, Pull You’ theory where players are in groups according to their developmental needs of being ‘Pushed’, or learning to ‘Pull’. These skills can be developed in “Push Me”: speed of play and thought processes, coping with pressure. “Pull You”: confidence, creativity/freedom of expression, leadership, initiative and responsibility.
The common thought is to be constantly “Pushed”. Which I agree with. As long as the players are pushed to ‘Pull’ as well.
