My title is a deliberate ploy to increase my blog rankings (sorry). Below is an update on what has been going on recently in some of our subjects/projects:
For the past few weeks my stage 4 PDHPE class has been focused on health and skill-related fitness components. It is great for me to see students master the theory aspects and then have them complete a number of fitness tests and see that specific component of their body working. So far we have tested cardiovascular endurance with a multi stage fitness test and core strength with the static plank test. In the last few weeks of term we will be investigating why certain athletes need agility and coordination and exactly how these components of fitness can be tested and improved upon.
In art, years 7 and 8 have been using Van Gogh for inspiration and are currently creating their own version of his famous ‘starry night’ painting as well as using Chinese calligraphy to describe their personal characteristics and star signs.
In music, stage 4 students are working through their music booklets and getting into the habit of recognising notes and how to read music. They are also researching the various instruments that make up an orchestra and some groups are even creating their own backing tracks, lyrics and raps to illustrate why music is so important to humans.
The Duke of Edinburgh information sheets went out to stage 5 parents on Friday and I will email all relevant parents the information too. Please register your child online if you are interested.
Finally, we have Regional Athletics at Olympic Park on Monday 2 Sept where 25 athletes who made ‘the cut’ from the last heats will participate. Well done guys, I’m sure you’ll do us proud again!
