Hi everyone. Well there have been many changes over the past couple of weeks. The most important addition to the kitchen has been a radio. For the past 18 years I’ve been surrounded by up to 20 staff and numerous customers asking constant questions. Now its just me, the wildlife and some volunteers to keep me sane. After I found myself talking to the kookaburras (with no response) I thought it was time for some ambience, hence the radio.
Another addition is the installation of a commercial dishwasher which has helped a great deal with the standard of cleaning and sanitizing of all the kitchen equipment, crockery, cutlery and glasses. Two new windows have been put in at the end of the café giving more light and updating the feel. Also the café garden has been jazzed up with a good clean out and some fresh wood chips.
I would like to ask for help from all parents in regards to encouraging students to try the lunch time meal before saying they don’t like it. Monday was a great example of this. I was serving a poached chicken and vegetable open top pie when a student asked if he could just have the pastry top as he didn’t like the other stuff. I asked him to please try a tiny bit before saying he didn’t like it and he agreed. A few moments later he came back and asked for more. I know that some students won’t like all my meals and that’s ok, I would just like them all to try it.
Til next time many thanks
Chef ASH
Hear hear Ashley! I have been telling my kids this for years saying things like ‘imagine if you had never tried lasagne, or chocolate, or fresh salmon fillets’ – just some of their favourite foods. We know that it takes up to 10 times of trying something before we might like it, so it is important to give it a go. How lucky are IFS kids! Thanks for all your hard work in keeping our kids well-fed. 🙂
