Last week my wife and I had the pleasure of going to the PINK concert and what an experience it was. PINK is an unbelievable performer, an amazing athlete and a true champion in her chosen field of music.
During the concert, and after she had sung several songs upside down while suspended by trapeze wires and harnesses, PINK revealed to the crowd, that for every tour it has been her mission to learn a new instrument and play a complete song with that instrument to her adoring fans.
I welcomed this news for two major reasons. The first – PINK talking gave me a moments peace from my wife belting out, You’ve got to get up and TRY in C Minor. The second – here is a performer at the top of her industry who is still prepared to learn a skill, practise that skill in endless rehearsal, maintain and improve the skill over 60 plus concerts, create and follow a routine to perform that skill on a daily basis. Last concert tour was the guitar, this one is the piano.
A great lesson to all our up and coming sports people – follow the examples set by champions in their chosen field. They are champions for a reason. Champions understand that you can always improve, you can always learn, you can always develop – you just have to get up and TRY!
