I cannot believe that it is the end of term two already –where has this term gone? So much has happened from both an academic and sporting perspective.
Our Football Development Program continues to go from strength to strength. Our students successfully participated in futsal competitions run by both Futsal NSW and Australian Futsal Association. Congratulations to all the students who participated and represented our college with pride. We qualified for State Championships in a number of age groups – well done! To top off our futsal successes, three of our boys have been selected for Nationals.
We have been building relationships with local clubs with friendly games against East Gosford Rams FC and Woongarah FC. These after-college games have proven to be invaluable for both our students and the visiting teams. We have also travelled to Hunter Sports High School for games and St Edwards East Gosford visited us for a match. We hope to keep building relationships with local colleges and providing these opportunities for our students. Our Coaches continue to stretch and challenge our students. Thank you to all our Coaches for all your hard work this term, it has been appreciated by all!
We welcomed to our Tennis Program new coach Greg Brownlow, who brings with him credentials to match our football Coaches. Having resurfaced the tennis courts, our tennis students can now train on-site and we have great plans to extend this program. This is yet another exciting opportunity for students to blend their passion for their sport with their education. Good luck to our tennis students participating in the NSW Country Championships in Newcastle next week. Win or lose – it doesn’t matter – what does matter is that you can say, with hand on heart, you played your best.
Our Academic Program also continues to go from strength to strength. Our students are consistently being challenged to take responsibility for their learning, show initiative and to produce work they are proud of. It has been an interesting term with excursions to the Australian Walkabout Park, a visit to NAISDA to see their mid-year performance as well as starting a major project developing a section at Mount Penang Gardens. During this time, two of our students organised a 24-hour cycle challenge to raise funds for this garden project. To top this off, students developed skills in gymnastics and put together an impressive display for our college community today.Thank you to our team of Teachers who channel the children’s football and tennis passion into their education.
We have a number of people to thank for their help throughout the term. Thank you to our Office Admin Mell, and her helpers, Kerry and Tracey. Your hard work keeps us all going! Thank you to our parent volunteers in both the School Café and the Office, your help is greatly appreciated. The saying “many hands make light work”, is so true! Thank you to our Fundraising Committee who are working tirelessly to raise funds, raise the profile of IFS and create events to bring our college community together. Thank you to Anna and Natalie who have been amazing these last two weeks in the School Café. Thank you to our wonderful Coaches and Teachers, it makes work life easier when you all share the same passion and vision. Thanks to Bec for completing her Internship with us and who we welcome as a “real” teacher next term. Welcome to Trisha who joins us for her Internship in the High School. Thank you to our Students – always remember why you chose to come to our college and that you are part of a unique institution that allows you to live your passion every day. Thank you to our School Parents, your support on a daily basis, to coach and teach your children is appreciated.
Good luck to our Students who are playing in a variety of tournaments in the holidays travelling to Sydney, Mudgee and then onto Canberra to play in the Kanga Cup. Win or lose – it doesn’t matter – what does matter is that you can say, with hand on heart, you played your best. Safe and happy term break everyone!
