This week students received their first IFS report. For some, these reports highlighted how well they have adjusted to project based learning and high efforts have been rewarded with high grades and good feedback. For others, unfortunately, these reports where not pleasant reading and served as a bit of a wake up call.
Like in life, I am a firm believer that you get what you deserve. If your work ethic and attitude are good, then generally this has a positive coloration with your outcomes, results and feedback.
I can remember having a not-so-great report when I was a year 8 pupil which was the first time I really felt that I had let myself down. The resulting conversation with my parents and teachers made me realise that it is not acceptable to rely solely on sporting prowess to get you through life and hard work is required no matter what subject or tasks are placed before you.
For those students who have had great feedback, I congratulate you. For those who know full well they can do better, I suggest you take a step back, look at your attitude, results and efforts before setting yourself a realistic and achievable goal for improvement next term.
