Calculations for the IFS 24 Hour Challenge have been finalised with a total of $1900 being raised. We are all very impressed and proud of everyone’s effort in supporting our college. The money will benefit students and teachers of IFS, firstly going to support our native garden needs, then sporting needs.
After the Queen’s long weekend years 7 and 8 were excited for their Walkabout Park excursion to further their knowledge of flora and fauna for their tech studies. Both year groups along with Sally and Rebecca and Blake and Bailey boarded the bus at 9:30 am ahead of their day at the park. Around 9:50 am the bus arrived at the Australian Walkabout Park and soon after we were greeted by a park ranger, Adam. Adam gave us our plan for the day and we were soon split into year groups and ready for our adventure! Year 7, along with Bec and Bailey had ranger Adam for the day, and year 8 along with Sally and Blake, ranger Karen. The walk started and the two groups were wandering in separate directions. First off the groups were learning about native flora and different things you could help survive off in the wild, students were very amused with the survival ideas indigenous Australians first discovered off flora. After discovering and learning about native flora, it was lunch break. During lunch break, there were some overly friendly emus searching students bags for some treats! After lunch rangers Adam and Karen showed us how to make bush soap out of leaves, then introduced us to some native Australian animals including a koala and diamond python. After an exciting day at the park it was time to head back to college, all students and teachers enjoyed their time at the walkabout park, and brought back knowledge which will help them engage in theie studies!
