The full range-of-motion squat has become a staple of our warm-up routine this term. This movement is essential in the process of optimising athletes’ performance. The correct mechanics used to perform the squat can also transfer to dynamic movements such as running and jumping.
Observing our students during warm-up, it is evident that many are still developing the required mobility and stability to perform the squat correctly. In many cases, it has been a new skill that has had to be learned and so it is pleasing to see several students are now squatting with ease and a sense of confidence. Others are finding the movement more difficult and will benefit from deliberate effort towards better movement mechanics as required by the squat.
I challenge you to try a full range-of-motion squat to indeed discover whether you KNOW squat!
Marko (my 22 months old son) practices squats daily, shouldn’t we all?
