58000 calories burnt over 2000km in 24hours!!!
Last Friday Bec and I and 14 of our students embarked on an epic fundraising mission. We cycled non-stop for 24 hours, covering 2000km – the equivalent of travelling from Kariong to Townsville.
After the first few 15 minute/7km intervals we soon realised that this was not going to be easy! I am so proud of all that were involved in the event. Student effort levels were breathtaking at times and the spirit and support they provided each other was immense.
Spending 24 hours together proved to be a great experience and strong bonds have been forged among the group. The ‘graveyard shift’ between 1-5am was especially challenging but most entertaining. As I woke individuals for their next cycle shift some didn’t know where they were and made hilarious initial comments! Some sleep-talked through the night and others cycled in a daze but no one gave in, complained or shirked their responsibility….what an awesome effort!
We have raised a considerable amount – close to $2000 so far for our indigenous garden project. I’ll update you with the final total amount in next weeks blog.
Finally a big thank you to all the parents who assisted with this event. Your support was greatly appreciated by the college and I especially enjoyed the kind food donations provided throughout the 24hours!
Bring on the next challenge!!!
Huge effort, well done everyone
