To start this week’s blog I want to share something with you. This picture is one of the presents I received from my family for Mother’s Day. It is a canvas print now on display in our kitchen at home, as a constant reminder of what it means to be part of a family – especially when life is busy!
Our teaching staff are currently busy checking, rechecking and collating a variety of information for our Board of Studies visit next week. We will welcome three inspectors whose purpose is to check that we are doing what we said we would do when we first applied to be a college. They will look at the site to ensure that it works as a college, this means they’ll walk around, check out the learning spaces and all the other spaces our students use. In administration, they will check to ensure policies and procedures are in place and working, that staff qualifications are in check and that all paperwork is up to date. Last, but not least, the inspectors will critically evaluate our academic program to ensure that what is being taught in the classrooms meets the syllabus requirements. So they’ll be reading our overall teaching plans and all teaching programs and comparing the quality of work produced by our students to the syllabus outcomes. Its a laborious endeavour, if not a little bit stressful, however everyone is coping with the extra pressure remarkably well! In our parent newsletter next week, I will provide more detailed feedback from this visit.
Since the start of the college year, I have been collating a series of articles and videos for parents to continue to develop an understanding of our varied approaches at IFS. This resource has been added to recently with new articles on teen nutrition, yoga, understanding your digital footprint and many more. I am always looking out for interesting articles or footage that supports what we are doing, so please email me if you find an article of interest for our online library.
