I can’t believe we are only 3 weeks away from the end of our first term. I look back at our open day and it only feels like yesterday. Yet when I look at how much work we have all done, TOGETHER, it is enough for a year. We have come such a long way and everyday I step into the grounds and see the students training, learning and laughing together it makes it so worthwhile.
Last week saw Class 5/6 start a series on Road Safety. we have been looking at what makes our area safe or unsafe. We looked at our immediate environment, around our college, and areas that perhaps were good and also perhaps needed some attention. One afternoon we went out the front of our classroom and just observed the traffic that comes up The Avenue. And to our surprise the cars that came up and down there were certainly not doing the 20 km/h that they should be. Then the question was raised “How can we make it safer for us?”
We also went out to the end of the road and observed traffic up and down the Central Coast Highway. We separated them into groups of cars and trucks/buses. Did you know that a car passes by us every 1s on that road. Yes that’s 60 cars every minute. And this wasn’t even at a peak time. The discussion was had on why would the figures vary and different times of the day and we found out that perhaps the start of college/work etc might play a factor also the end of the day as well.
Class 5/6 are really working fantastically together and we look forward to our first trip out of the college next week Monday. An email will go out shortly about this so keep an eye on those Inboxes.
Regards,
Shane
