We’re all saying it:
“It’s already week 7, – it’ll be the end of the first term before we know it!”
Perhaps around this time we may begin to earnestly reflect on how we’re traveling. – The honeymoon and the excitement of being ‘brand new’ is giving way to a sense of – this is now our ‘norm’ and I must say that at this point in time, I am very impressed with our students, who are adapting well to our different ways of working. As the teachers have said to the students; “Our ways of working allow a great deal of freedom, (probably far more than they’ve previously been accustomed to) but with freedom comes responsibility” – This is very much what we are wanting to see develop in the students at IFS.
During the first half of the term I was working beside the year 7 & 8 students and for the last couple of weeks, and until the end of the term, I’m working with years 9 & 10. We began the term working with pen and paper, we’ve now moved onto electronic presentations. This week it has been exciting to see what the students are coming up with in their individual styles of delivery. Clearly they are more up with the ‘fancy’ programs than I am. It never ceases to amaze me how you can put a ‘remote’ into the hands of a child and they immediately know how to work it. – I have to read all of the instructions first……..
I’ve been teaching for a good number of years, the thing I always loved most about teaching are the students, they are in my eyes, the future. Every day I am so enjoying being a part of IFS, it’s: – the location, the football, the concepts, all of the colleagues, the approach to teaching – PBL, the Open Learning Space, and in particular – it’s our wonderful students!
Kind regards,
Rodney
