Week 6 and its all change in the classroom, stage 4 and 5 have switched teaching staff and the iPads have launched us into the 21st Century with a bang! Obviously there has been a degree of excitement with the addition of iPads but students must be aware that their new ‘toy’ is actually gong to serve as one of their main educational tools and is not there for FIFA tournaments or Facebook!!!!
The use of iPads for educational purposes really does open up a whole new interactive world that will enhance the quality of work students produce and I’m confident you will be blown away with some of their end assessment task outcomes. The digital frontier is there for us all to embrace and utilise which will ensure that we get the most out of each teaching session. Please be mindful and aware that there will obviously still be written and drawing tasks using that old favourite of mine, ‘the pen.’
Project 3 is geography week where pupils are to act as a geologist to study various global environments and decide whether or not they are worth protecting. This project will be delivered through an interactive iBook that some will embrace and excel with, whilst others will be a little overwhelmed. The end assessment of this task is an individual keynote presentation so there is no hiding in groups, pupils will be encouraged to shine and today I will be reaffirming my high expectations of them.
I have been involved in the football side of things this week too which was a great opportunity to get out there coaching and to see some of our players skills and attitudes really shine in a different manner to how they act in the classroom.
Finally we had our first parent/teacher evening last night which was a great success. It reaffirms to me that what we are doing each day at IFS really is having a positive impact not only on the students but the whole family. I am proud to be a teacher at this college and will continue to realise the importance of being a daily role model to these pupils and I look forward to helping them develop in the coming years.
