Student Life

At Central Coast Sports College (CCSC), student athlete life is about balance. We develop athletic ability while delivering academic growth and personal development. From the classroom to the field, court, or studio, we create an environment that supports every aspect of a student athlete’s sporting and educational journey.

With a focus on physical literacy and holistic development, our student athletes are encouraged to explore a variety of sports, refine their skills, and strive for excellence in everything they do.

We create opportunities and experiences for our student athletes through our partnerships with sporting federations including Central Coast Mariners, Central Coast United Football Club, Central Coast Football, Central Coast Heart Netball, Central Coast Rugby League, and businesses including Business NSW, Central Coast Council, Everything Sports, and polytec Stadium.

Nutrition

Healthy eating is a core part of athletic development and is one of our priorities. Our qualified chefs prepare lunches with fresh fruits, salads, proteins and grains daily for all student athletes at our onsite cafe.

Performance Lab

The Performance Lab provides modern facilities and care for sports recovery, injury treatment and rehabilitation. Our on-site physiotherapist, massage therapist and strength and conditioning team support student athletes in their recovery journey, helping them return to peak health as quickly as possible. In collaboration with our nutritionist, we ensure athletes receive the best advice on eating for performance, enabling them to train and compete at their best.

Strength and Conditioning

Our strength and conditioning program incorporates Foundation, Talent, Elite and Mastery (FTEM) and Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) principles to support athletic success. Our approach builds a strong foundation in movement, promoting physical literacy for life. This includes:

  • Athletic screenings for student athletes in Years 7-12, focusing on injury prevention.
  • Tailored support, based on individual assessments including prehabilitation exercises.
  • Senior College strength testing to track athletic progress, aligning with the FTEM model.
  • LTAD for holistic development covers physical, mental, technical and tactical principles.
  • Commitment to health and safety through regular communication with parents and guardians.

Outdoor Education

Unique to CCSC, the Outdoor Education program available for all grades (K-12) develops essential life skills such as resilience, leadership and teamwork. Through hiking, camping and recreational activities, student athletes connect with nature and culture while improving their wellbeing. We offer:

  • Termly day hikes on The Great North Walk and Blue Mountains walking tracks.
  • Overnight camps from Year 5 with activities like kayaking, mountain biking and abseiling.
  • Self-sufficient camps from Year 9, where student athletes carry their gear and explore remote areas.

Wellbeing

At CCSC, wellbeing is the foundation for student athlete success. Central to our approach is positive psychology, guided by the PROSPER framework—fostering Positive Emotions, building strong Relationships, achieving meaningful Outcomes, developing individual Strengths, discovering Purpose, encouraging Engagement, and cultivating Resilience.

We also emphasise community engagement, encouraging student athletes to lead initiatives and social action projects, developing leadership skills and a commitment to making a positive impact. This framework helps our student athletes thrive, and promotes a growth mindset and positive achievements in every area of their lives.

  • Proactive Support for Student Athletes

We provide tailored support for student athletes, prioritising wellbeing alongside sports development. Our wellbeing team collaborates with advisers and coaches to integrate support into daily routines, ensuring students thrive in college, sports, and life.

  • The Leader in Me College Program

As a Leader in Me College, we empower student athletes with leadership skills aligned with their values and goals. From Kindergarten to Year 12, they develop responsibility, resilience, and self-motivation, gaining essential life skills such as goal setting, time management, and communication for success on and off the field.

  • A Dynamic, Multidisciplinary Support Team

Our multidisciplinary team of nurses, wellbeing professionals, inclusive education teachers, and student athlete learning support officers, work closely with educators, coaches, and allied health professionals to ensure every student athlete’s needs are met.
