Strength & Conditioning
CCSC integrates FTEM principles and Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) concepts into its Strength and Conditioning programs to optimize athlete development and support the long-term success of student-athletes. In the FTEM framework, the Foundations phases are associated with the early development, refinement, and expression of the foundations of movement, leading to lifelong physical literacy. Physical literacy is deemed a critical precursor for the three key outcomes of sport, active lifestyle, recreation, and high performance, and has been recognized as a key strategic pillar and ‘platform’ for the enduring success of sporting systems.
Implementation process for CCSC's Strength and Conditioning
Athletic Screenings: CCSC conducts athletic screenings for students in years 7-12 These screenings assess key areas crucial for injury prevention.
Tailored Support: The results of these screenings enable the provision of tailored support based on each student-athlete's developmental stage within the FTEM framework. This includes implementing prehabilitation (prehab) focus activations daily, and addressing individual needs through targeted interventions designed to enhance performance and reduce injury risk.
Senior College Strength Testing: CCSC also conducts strength testing specifically for Senior College students. This testing process demonstrates the students' commitment to excellence in both academics and athletics, aligning with the Mastery stage of the FTEM model.
LTAD Overview: CCSC considers physical, mental, technical, and tactical aspects of training and competition over the long term. The college's S&C programs are designed with LTAD principles in mind to ensure gradual progression, proper recovery, and overall well-being of student-athletes.
Commitment to Health and Safety: CCSC values the relationship with parents/carers and our physios in promoting the health, safety, and success of student-athletes. Coaches are in touch with parents/carers to provide updates related to the athletic screenings, training programs, and the progression of student-athletes within the FTEM and LTAD frameworks.
