From Pre-Kindy to Year 6: Building confidence, curiosity and character at CCSC

Choosing a primary school on the Central Coast isn’t just about where your child will learn to read or write; it’s about finding a community that nurtures who they are as a whole person. At Central Coast Sports College, we believe that academic growth and physical movement should work together. By weaving purposeful activity directly into every school day, alongside a strong academic framework, our primary pathway, from Pre-Kindy through to Year 6, gives young student athletes the space to build confidence, curiosity and character at every stage of their development.

Building the foundations in Pre-Kindy

How your child starts their educational journey shapes how they view learning for life, which is why establishing a strong foundation is important. According to the Australian Government’s Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), play-based and active learning are essential for developing agency, communication, cognitive growth, self-regulation and emotional resilience in young children.

At CCSC, we build on these principles by weaving purposeful movement and interactive play into our early learning environment. To keep young minds engaged and to ensure a smooth, confident step into formal schooling, we offer two initiatives:

  • The CCSC Play Program: Serving as the first stage of our Kindergarten enrolment process, this initiative invites applicants to attend four structured play sessions (two classroom-based and two sport-focused) during term 1 of the year prior to starting school. It gives our team the chance to get to know your child while helping them build social connections, physical confidence, and excitement for school.
  • The Pre-Kindy Club: Operating alongside our CCSC Play Program, the Pre-Kindy Club offers future student athletes ongoing opportunities to explore our campus, meet our staff and familiarise themselves with the college’s daily rhythms before their official first day of Kindergarten.

Establishing confidence in Kindergarten

Stepping into Kindergarten is a major milestone for your child and your family. At CCSC, our Kindergarten program combines structured literacy and numeracy with intentional, play-based investigations, giving young student athletes room to explore, ask questions and learn at their own pace.

To ensure your child receives dedicated support during this first transition year, class sizes are kept intentionally small, capped at just 16 student athletes per class across three streams. Guided by experienced early childhood educators, your child will receive personal attention while developing foundational academic, social and emotional skills.

Each day includes a balance of focused classroom time, mindfulness, and sport to help your child build teamwork skills, physical confidence and a genuine love for staying active.

Nurturing adaptable student athletes in Junior College

As your child starts Kindergarten and moves through our Junior College (Years K-6), they join a supportive community dedicated to building character, adaptability, and academic confidence.

Learning is powered by the Walker Learning Pedagogy, an Australian framework combining structured teaching in core subjects with hands-on, inquiry-based projects. Your child will engage in real-world problem-solving that sparks curiosity and teamwork while meeting all NSW curriculum standards. Homeroom teachers work closely with your family, keeping communication open to support your child academically, socially and personally.

Alongside classroom learning, physical activity is built directly into the daily routine across every year in Junior College:

  • Kindergarten to Year 2: Student athletes build core physical literacy skills, agility and body awareness through daily multi-sport activities like gymnastics, swimming and tennis.
  • Years 3 to 6: Student athletes transition into specialised sport programs, including core codes like football or netball, alongside fundamental athletic development. These structured sessions refine technical skills, tactical awareness, and team dynamics, laying the groundwork for a smooth transition into Senior College.

By embedding this balanced mix of education and sport, our Junior College student athletes build essential life skills, developing emotional resilience, collaboration and the adaptability needed to succeed in Senior School and beyond.

Preparing your child for any path with CCSC

By weaving hands-on learning, daily movement, and genuine connection into every school day, we develop flexible, independent thinkers ready for the modern world. The mindset your child builds during their early years stays with them for life. Whether your child’s future holds professional sport, starting their own business, or pursuing a creative career, it all begins with the foundations built in Pre-Kindergarten and Junior School.

We’d love to welcome your family to campus and show you what daily life looks like for our young student athletes at CCSC. Enrolments are now open; book a campus tour today to learn more about joining us for Pre-Kindy, Kindergarten or Junior College.
