Junior College
Our college is fully accredited by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA, formerly BOSTES) adhering to their mandatory curriculum requirements for Kindergarten through to Year 12.
Junior college – All students are placed in needs-based academic groups for numeracy and literacy where both explicit and investigation based learning strategies are undertaken.
Walker Learning – One of our key differences is the Walker Learning methodology, an evidence based framework developed by renown early childhood educator, Kathy Walker. This methodology has been in place at the College since June 2018 and is a developmentally and culturally appropriate teaching methodology for K-12 children, placing an emphasis upon relationships between teacher, coach, child and family. The method views the child holistically and values emotional and social development as highly as academics. For a brief introduction to Walker Learning, please see this short video.
The vision in creating CCSC was to restore balance to the lives of sporting families. By incorporating top-level coaching into their normal college day, parents are freed of the after-college training run-around, allowing more time for the family.
CCSC maintains a ‘No Homework Policy’. You can view details about this here as it was recently featured on the ABC 7.30 Report. Extensive research suggests there is no correlation between academic performance and assigning homework. Similarly, there is no research that links homework with good study habits or character building. In fact, the negative effects of homework and their impact on families are well known. It is important to note, however, that while our teachers do not formally issue homework, we do not discourage learning at home. Students are encouraged to always do their best work, and in order to do this, extra preparation time and revision outside of class may be required to meet deadlines.
This balanced approach carries through into everything we do. It’s not just about academics and it’s not just about sport. At CCSC, we feel strongly about the development of the whole person – from the healthy food in our café, to the healthy rhythm of the college day, the college term and the college year – we’re all about your child’s total health and wellbeing.
