Finding the best school for your sporty child on the Central Coast is a big decision, and it’s one you want to get right.
At Central Coast Sports College (CCSC), we know that balancing movement and sports training with a great education is a priority for your family, and it’s a priority for us, too. Because we get so many questions from local parents about how it all works, we’ve put together this simple guide to our most frequently asked enrolment questions on waitlists, tour dates, sport references, sibling priority and more.
Whether you’re just starting your research or you’re ready to take the next step, read on to discover everything you need to know about joining the CCSC family.
Q: Is there any current availability?
A: At the moment, our year groups from Kindergarten right through to Year 12 are operating at near capacity. Because so many local families are looking for an alternative to traditional schooling, we receive a high volume of applications.
As a result, all new applicants are automatically placed on our waiting list. Don’t let that discourage you, though — movement does happen! As soon as a spot becomes available, we reach out to shortlisted families and invite your child to join us for a trial day. It’s a fantastic opportunity to see if CCSC is the right environment for your child to reach their full potential.
Q: When should I apply?
A: For all year groups, the best time to apply is one year before your desired enrolment date. This gives you the best chance of securing a place for your child in our community.
Q: How many applicants are on the waitlist, and where is my child placed?
A: The length of our waitlist depends on the specific year group, but we do things a little differently here than at other schools. We don’t actually use a first-come, first-served system. Instead, when a spot opens up, our leadership team looks at all current applicants to find the student athlete who best fits the current dynamics of that year group. We then invite that candidate in for a trial.
Because we focus on finding the right fit, not every applicant will be called in for a trial. The only exception to this is for student athletes looking to join us during our Kindergarten and Year 7 intakes, which are our primary enrolment periods.
Q: Do you offer individual tours or trials?
A: Because we receive such a large volume of applications, we aren’t able to offer individual tours or one-on-one trials. However, we’d love to meet you at one of our group College tours! These sessions run two to three times per term and are honestly the best way to get a feel for the CCSC spirit. You’ll get to explore our facilities, see our student athletes in action, and chat directly with our leadership and sports coaching team. To find a date that works for you, please see our upcoming tours.
Q: When will I receive an update on my child’s enrolment?
A: We know you’re keen to plan your child’s future, so we make sure to provide enrolment updates roughly every six months. If a spot opens up and your child is selected for a trial, we’ll contact you immediately to get the ball rolling.
For families looking to join us at the beginning of the journey in Kindergarten or as they transition into Year 7, the best place to start is by checking our enrolment process and trial dates. This page will give you a clear roadmap of what to expect and when.
Q: Do I need to apply every year?
A: Not at all! Once you’ve applied, you can tick that off your to-do list. Your child’s application will automatically roll over on our waitlist each year.
It stays active until a spot opens up and we invite your child to a trial, or until you let us know that you’d like to be removed from the list.
Q: What information is required for the sports reference?
A: Think of the sports reference as a way for us to get to know your child’s personality. It’s a vital part of our process because it helps us understand their athletic history, their drive, and their level of commitment.
To give us the best picture of your child, you can provide:
- A formal letter from their current club or coach, or
- Contact details for a current or former coach with whom our team can chat to learn more.
By providing a detailed and accurate reference, you’re helping us fairly evaluate how your child will thrive in our unique sporting and academic environment.
Q: Do siblings get priority?
A: We love supporting our current CCSC families, and while we definitely keep an eye out for siblings, our main priority is making sure the College is the absolute best fit for every individual applicant.
Enrolment decisions are always made with the student athlete and our broader community in mind, ensuring we maintain an environment where everyone can thrive. That said, we do offer sibling discounts to help make things a little easier for families with multiple children. For all the details on how this works, feel free to check out our fee schedule.
