It’s another major milestone for Central Coast Sports College with Ava Carlson having been announced as a member of the Junior Matildas squad. Entering the College in 2021, Ava has progressed rapidly through the football ranks, competing in elite inter-school competition games and working her way into the Central Coast Mariners Academy. Track athletics are another area in which Ava competes at high level, benefitting from the cross-training that conditions different muscle groups, requires a different skills set, and can help to motivate by providing a break from the same exercise routines. Central Coast Sports College and former Sydney FC coach Dan Barrett says: “Her attitude is second to none and she has the courage to work outside her comfort zone with more senior players. She competes with intensity all the while seeking for feedback on areas in which she can improve. In my time I’ve worked with many players who have played within The Matildas (our national team) and those players possess one quality that sets them apart; they tell you what they want to achieve and then they do the work. Those players are few and far between, so with Ava having those same qualities, it’s no surprise to see her where she is. I hope to continue to help her along this journey’’.
