In the girls grand final a red-hot Central Coast Sports College will be determined to upset the four-year reign of Bill Turner Trophy heavyweights Westfields Sports High. For the Central Coast, it’s their first time in the final four. “We’re super proud of the improvements we’ve made over such a short period of time,” says coach Daniel Barrett. “It’s a start-up school – the school started from scratch at the very beginning – and a lot of emphasis has gone into our female football program.”
Across its seven-game path to the semi-finals, the school has scored a remarkable 48 goals and conceded just three. They put out Hunter Sports High in the round of 32 before flying past St John’s Woodlawn and then beating All Saints Maitland
Barrett says “Westfield Sports High have probably been the benchmark school in football when it comes to school-based competitions, both male and female, so to be at the pointy end of the competition with them is not only a great achievement, but also a bit of a gauge as to where we are.”
