Training begins with Dan Barrett as the Mariners Women’s Premier League Head Coach overseeing the elite performance phase of female football at the club. The first training run took place at the Central Coast Sports College last night.
Barrett says: “The women’s game here on the Central Coast has huge potential. With me being based locally I feel like I can invest so much time into the program. I can’t wait to start and I also think it’s fantastic that the Central Coast Sports College is providing a base for the program to run.”
Dan coached Sydney FC to the 2016 Grand Final and adds a wealth of experience to the Mariners Academy coaching stocks. He says of his time as the Sydney FC W-League coach: “I know what it takes to be a elite player. I was blessed with the talent we had playing at Sydney FC and worked with plenty of Matildas. What I want to bring to the Mariners is much more than technical and tactical development, it’s about football education. Whether it’s about dealing with pressure and expectations I know exactly what it takes to reach those heights.”
Dan has lived locally for the past 16 years and has spent the last 5 years with the Central Coast Sports College alongside Mariners legends such as Damien Brown, Patrick Zwaanswijk and Andre Gumprecht.
“I want to deliver more than just coaching, I would love nothing more than to bring some of the Matildas and ex-coaches who I’ve worked with in to host seminars, give talks and set platforms for what these players need to reach the highest levels.”
