It’s that time of year again where gccsc are on people’s minds so I wanted to write about a gift that CCSC has given to a local business. It’s all about life cycle management (**definition below) and it has provided an enormous boost for the business and will, in turn, have an enormous impact for years to come.
Hi Julie
Please pass on Gerald’s and my, and all of Walkabout Park’s, thanks to the Central Coast Sports College for the donation of the materials from the college’s sports facilities that you are in the process of dismantling and replacing. It is hard to describe how appreciative we are, but I will try.
Most of the materials donated by the college will be used for Walkabout Park’s “Healthy Habitat” project which we have just begun. I have attached a page describing what this project is, and how the benefits will flow through to the environment and to the community.
The materials from the college will be put to extremely good use at Walkabout Park. Of necessity our focus is usually primarily on the animals that we care for. This project, which you are helping to make possible, will go so much further. It will be of long term benefit to the environment (the animals’ natural home) and will engage the local community in new ideas about preserving and restoring wildlife habitat in their own back yards.
The reason that I was so excited to receive your call about the materials was that we knew that it would be a struggle to fund all the things that we plan to do with our “Healthy Habitat” project. We do have funding for some aspects of the project but, to get the most benefit from it, especially delivering community environmental education, we knew we needed so much more.
You have taken the worry out of one of the big questions that was keeping me awake at night “How will we afford the materials (1) to build all the structures to protect the plants until they are established, and (2) so the scope of the project will be big enough for people in the community to get hands-on?”.
The galvanised poles and netting are exactly what we need! Not only do we not have to go out and buy them which would have exhausted our small budget and left nothing for the rest of the project, but we can do everything on a bigger scale. The expanded scale of the project will provide lots of opportunity for community workshops.
So “Thank you!”
It occurred to me that we may be able to help the college by getting students involved with this Bush Care project. If this will be of any help, please let us know in the New Year.
Yours sincerely,
Tassin

** Life cycle management is increasingly important these days and at CCSC we are making concerted efforts in this regard. Product life cycle management (PLM) is the process of managing the entire life cycle of a product from inception, through engineering design and manufacture, to service and disposal of manufactured products.
