The spirit of generosity is alive and well at our college. When our students help each other, when they forgive each other the small slights of everyday living, when they are gentle and kind to each other, when they encourage each other and when they share in each other’s successes they show generosity of spirit. This is fostered and encouraged in the classroom and on the field and we saw some great examples of that at our Year 9 camp where most students were always willing to lend a hand and encourage and support others. Society at large is really founded on a bedrock of solidarity, support and sharing. It is no coincidence that countries that report the highest level of contentment are the ones that take care of their young and old people in the most comprehensive way. One of the noblest aims of education is to foster an ingrained sense of fairness and social justice. Nowadays when more and more governments seem to be elected on the basis of narrow-mindedness, xenophobia and exclusive social policies, having a generous and inclusive youth may just be the best thing to happen to us.
